FEDERAL RESERVE BANK PRESENTING ON PRICE STABILITY AT GREAT FALLS COLLEGE MSU

Great Falls, MT—A senior official from the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis, along with key staff from the Bank’s Helena branch will be at Great Falls College MSU Wednesday, September 30th at 6:30pm to discuss price stability. Great Falls College MSU is located at 2100 16th Avenue South, Great Falls.

The Federal Reserve System is the central bank of the United States. Congress created the Federal Reserve through a law passed in 1913, charging it with a responsibility to foster a sound banking system and a healthy economy. The Minneapolis Fed, with one branch in Helena serves six states of the Ninth Federal Reserve District.

This presentation will cover price stability, what price stability means, how price stability and inflation are measured, what factors affect inflation, and why price stability so important for the economy.

Presenting will be Sam Schulhofer-Wohl, Senior Vice President and Director of Research at the Federal Reserve Bank in Minneapolis. He oversees the bank’s research division, leads its economists in advising the bank’s President on monetary policy, and regularly attends meetings of the Federal Open Market Committee in Washington DC, as well as serving on the bank’s management committee.

Schulhofer-Wohl’s current economic research focuses on risk sharing and migration. His work has recently appeared in the Journal of Political Economy, Review of Economic Dynamics, Quantitative Economics, Demography, and The Journal of Development Economics just to name a few.

Schulhofer-Wohl joined the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis as a senior economist in 2010 and was promoted to senior vice president in 2013. From 2007 to 2010, he was an assistant professor in the Department of Economics and the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International affairs at Princeton University. Schulhofer-Wohl received his M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in economics from the University of Chicago, and a B.A. in Physics from Swarthmore College.
