Great Falls College MSU to Host Transfer Fair

GREAT FALLS — Great Falls College MSU is hosting the 2019 Transfer Fair on Tuesday, April 2 from 10 am to 1 pm.

The Transfer Fair is held every year to help facilitate the transfer of Great Falls College MSU students interested in earning a 4-year degree to other institutions in Montana. GFC MSU awards certificates, applied associate degrees and associate degrees, which often serve as starting points into higher education.

“Approximately 1/3 of Great Falls College MSU students are pursuing Associate of Arts and Science degrees with the intent of transferring to complete bachelor’s degrees,” said Troy Stoddard, Director of the Advising and Career Center. “The transfer fair allows students to learn more about transfer options while also giving upcoming graduates an opportunity to finalize their transfer plans.”

The Transfer Fair will be held in South Court at Great Falls College MSU. Representatives will be available from University of Providence, Montana State University, University of Montana, Park university, Carrol College, Montana State University Northern, Montana Tech, University of Montana Western and Montana State University – Billings.

Following the Transfer Fair, from 3-6 pm Montana State University Northern will be holding an additional event at Great Falls College MSU to provide information on several programs people can complete through the university without leaving the Great Falls area. Community members and students are invited to attend.

Montana State University Northern is one example of a four-year university collaborating with Great Falls College MSU to bring educational opportunities to Great Falls.

“We know there are people who would like to complete or earn their bachelor’s degrees but who cannot leave the area and move to Havre, for example,” said Dr. Leanne Frost, Director of General Studies at Great Falls College MSU. “So, we partner with universities to teach classes on our campus or online to reach those students.”

Specifically, Montana State University Northern will be offering information on programs in education, accounting, business, criminal justice and trades.

Advisors at Great Falls College MSU and at Montana State University Northern work with students to create a plan that will transfer between the college and university so students can achieve their goals.

Many students start college at Great Falls College MSU rather than at a four-year university because of a cost savings both in tuition and living expenses. In addition, some students prefer smaller class sizes and more one-on-one interaction with their faculty.

Because of the Common Course Numbering initiative in Montana, courses transfer between campuses in the Montana University System.

Representatives from Montana State University Northern will meet with interested individuals in the South Court of Great Falls College MSU. An area with children’s activities will be available for parents who need to bring their children with them.
