GREAT FALLS— Great Falls College MSU (GFC MSU) is providing weekly topics via online web links and activities centered around becoming more cyber secure online during the month of October.
October is National Cybersecurity Awareness Month, a collaborative effort between government and organizations to ensure everyone has the resources and knowledge they need to stay secure at work, school or home.
According to Infosec©, a company that helps to educate and train employees to be cyber aware, there are more than four billion people on the internet today. With that many internet users sharing information about themselves online via social media, email, online shopping and more, it makes them more susceptible to scammers and identity thieves.
“We hope that by bringing awareness to our students and the community through this online series through Cyber Falls virtual town by MediaPro©, we can educate them to make better choices when sharing personal information online,” said Chris Mee, Computer Technology Faculty Chair.
Many may not realize what makes them a target for scammers. For instance, online shopping should never be done over public Wi-Fi. Anyone can gain access to public Wi-Fi and personal or credit card information could be exposed.
The following weekly online links and activities (provided by MediaPro©, Cybersecurity & Privacy Education) will be covered this month at Great Falls College MSU. The links can be found at www.gfcsmsu.edu/cyber.
The week of October 28 through the 31 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Atrium, GFC MSU will be offering free security checks to the community, students, faculty and staff to determine if your device is secure online, and if not, how to become secure.
