GFC MSU Offers Free Cyber Checks Oct. 28-31

GREAT FALLS— Keeping your electronic devices secure is vital in this era when personal information can easily be captured and used for malicious purposes. Help protect yourself by participating in a free cyber check at Great Falls College MSU (GFC MSU) Oct 28-31 in celebration of National Cybersecurity Awareness Month.

Bring your electronic devices to the Atrium at the college at 2100 16th Avenue South between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Students and faculty in the Computer Technology department will conduct security checks to see if the devices are secure and make recommendations on how to increase security.

“We hope that by bringing awareness to the community through these checks, we can educate people to make better choices when sharing personal information online,” said Chris Mee, Computer Technology Faculty Chair.

Many people may not realize what makes them a target for scammers. For instance, online shopping should never be done over public Wi-Fi. Anyone can gain access to public Wi-Fi and personal or credit card information could be exposed.

October is National Cybersecurity Awareness Month, a collaborative effort between government and organizations to ensure everyone has the resources and knowledge they need to stay secure at work, school or home.
