The Great Falls College EMT course is a one-semester, seven-credit course. Graduates of the Great Falls College EMT course have a 95 percent pass rate on the national EMT certification exam. This course is a great way for you to work on your prerequisites for a paramedic program. At the completion of the course, students 18 years or older may sit for the National Registry EMT exam. Being a certified EMT is a requirement for becoming a paramedic.

Graduates are prepared to:

  • Apply for a paramedic program
  • Assess and manage medical and traumatic emergencies in pre-hospital settings.
  • Provide basic life support, including CPR and AED use.
  • Perform patient assessments and document findings accurately.
  • Administer medications as allowed under EMT scope of practice.
  • Safely transport patients to medical facilities while monitoring their condition.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families and healthcare professionals.
  • Operate and maintain emergency vehicles and medical equipment.
  • Sit for the National EMT Certification Exam (if at least 18 years old).
