College Readiness
It is important that Great Falls College students have foundational skills in math and writing in order to succeed in all other courses. Your readiness for writing and math is important because it helps ensure placement into appropriate courses.

Math Readiness
We require you to send proof of math readiness in order to complete your admissions file and move to advising and registration.

MATH EXCEPTIONS by override (without Math Department Chair review):
- Students (except dual enrollment) whose Accuplacer score is within 5 points of next bracket/range may be overridden into the higher course (except for M 151 and M 171) by providing a transcript with 4 years of A and B high school math grades.
- Students (except dual enrollment) whose SAT score is within 5 points of next bracket/range may be overridden into the higher course (except for M 151 and M 171) by providing a transcript with 4 years of A and B high school math grades.
- Concurrent dual enrollment high school math students whose Accuplacer is within 5 points for M 121 or M 151 or STAT 216 placement may be overridden into the concurrent math course by providing a transcript with A or B grades in prior high school math courses and with the approval of the concurrent math instructor of the course.
- Students with Technical Math (M 111) or Business Math (M 108) can enroll in M 088 or M 090 without placement.
MATH EXCEPTIONS by override (requires Math Department Chair review):
- Dual enrolled, non-concurrent high school students whose Accuplacer score is within 5 points of next bracket/range may be overridden into the higher course by providing a transcript with A or B grades in prior high school math courses and with the approval of the math department chair.
- All other exceptions require Math Department Chair review.
NOTE: Students wanting into calculus are required to have taken a math that includes trigonometry. Otherwise, they should take M 151 Precalculus.

Writing Readiness
We encourage you to send proof of writing readiness so we have the most information for advising prior to course registration.
* If you do not provide proof of writing readiness, you may be eligible for a self-directed writing survey. You will discuss this with your academic advisor at your first appointment and before registering for classes.

WRITING EXCEPTIONS by override (without English Department Chair review):
- Students who are requesting an exception may work with an Academic Advisor to take the self-directed writing placement survey.
- Students can also use ACT, SAT, Accuplacer, or HiSET scores within the last 10 years.
- Students can also request to use their high school cumulative GPA and grade in their most recent English course if student graduated within the last 10 years or if current dual enrollment high school student. Need copy of high school transcript attached to override.
