Off-Campus Services
Off campus library services are available for students and Faculty that live more than 40 miles outside of Great Falls and are enrolled in or teaching online courses. Please contact the library with any questions or concerns over off-campus access. Staff are available to email, speak on the phone, or meet virtually via Teams to work with distance students and faculty.
How Can I Access the Library’s Resources from Home?
All of the library’s online resources can be searched any time you have internet access. These resources are licensed for off campus use by current Great Falls College students, faculty, and staff only, so to access them from off campus, you will be prompted to sign in with your NetID and password.
The library can mail distance students and faculty books located in the library’s physical collection. For more information on how to request a book, please see the “how do I check out library materials” section.
How do I check out library materials from a distance?
Students and faculty who live outside of Great Falls may request that library materials be mailed to them.
To request and check out materials, please email the library and provide us with:
- your student/staff ID number (your Banner number) or NetID number
- your current mailing address
- your phone number
- your e-mail address
- the title of the item(s) you are requesting
The library will pay shipping costs one way. When it is time to return the item, shipping costs are the borrower’s responsibility. Any loss or damage that occurs during the return shipping process is the borrower’s responsibility, so the library recommends paying for shipping insurance and tracking services in case damage or loss occurs.
Materials eligible for shipping to distance students:
- Books and reference materials
- calculators
- chemistry model kits
- Hotspots
- Wireless mouse
- Wireless 10-key keypads
Due to the value of the item and the shipping expense, the following items may not be shipped to distance students:
- anatomical models
- laptops
- short term loan items (some course reserves, some technology items)
How long can I keep library materials?
We will add 2 weeks to the standard circulation time for any materials that we mail to students to account for shipping times. If you need to request a renewal, please contact the library before the item due date.
How do I request materials from another library?
If our Library can’t provide an item, you can request it through our interlibrary loan service. Requests can be placed using our online ILL request form. To let us know that you are a distance student/faculty, please leave a note in the comments box and be sure to fill in your mailing address.
Note: please use this option only if you have plenty of time – we ask our in-person borrowers to allow 2-3 weeks for interlibrary loan items to be delivered, so it may take even longer for a distance student.
