AMERICAN INDIAN HERITAGE DAY AT GREAT FALLS COLLEGE MSU
Great Falls, MT—American Indian Heritage Day will be held Friday, September 25th 2015, at Great Falls College MSU. Great Falls College MSU is located at 2100 16th Avenue South.
Through many activities, American Indian Heritage Day will provide an opportunity to honor the Native American culture, and to give insight into their traditions . American Indian Heritage Day will begin at 9:00am in front of the Atrium, with activities following throughout the day:
• 9:00—10:00am: Opening prayer and smudging, by Richard Parenteau
• 10:00—11:00am: A presentation on Tipis in Native American culture, by Richard Parenteau
• 11:00am—12:00pm: A presentation on “Indian Givers”, by Deb Kottel.
• 12:00—1:00pm: Re-opening of the Native American Enrichment Center R279B, by Sandy Bauman
• 1:00—2:00pm: Presentation on “Old School Skinning and Butchering” by Billy Maxwell
• 2:00—3:00pm: Ursuline Centre Historical Foundation will present their Native American Collection
• 3:00—4:00pm: Paris Gibson Square Art Museum will display the Fort Shaw Child Artisans
• 4:00—5:00pm: American Indian Heritage Day will conclude with the film “Indian Relay”, which highlights a mix of high speed daring and exquisite horsemanship. The film reveals the hope and determination of modern-day American Indian life and what it takes to win one of the most exciting and perilous forms of horse racing practices anywhere in the world today.
“Native American Indian Culture is incredibly unique and beautiful” says Cynthia Stevens, Director of Fine Arts at Great Falls College MSU. “We are proud of the heritage our Native American students and community members bring to the college and Great Falls”, says Stevens.
