Brenda Canine of GFC MSU honored as Montana AGATE Educator of the Year

Dr. Brenda Canine, NANSLO Lab manager and instructional designer at Great Falls College MSU, was recently presented with the Educator of the Year Award by Montana AGATE.

The purpose of the Montana AGATE (Association for Gifted and Talented Education) is to support an understanding of all gifted children and their exceptional needs, and to advocate for appropriate education.

Dr. Canine was recognized for her work in the Brainia Mania summer camp held at GFC MSU each August for high achieving fourth through eighth grade students. Canine helped teach a robotics course and utilized the NANSLO Lab and Lego Robotics. She also helped write and develop proposals for STEM Saturdays which are outreach events to get kids interested in STEM topics and encourage exploration and discovery.

“Brenda has been an integral part of the Great Falls Public Schools’ partnership with Great Falls College MSU for the benefit of our gifted education students,” said Mary Rearden, GFPS gifted education coordinator and Region 2 representative for Montana AGATE. “She is a popular instructor at our Brainia Mania Camp because of her understanding of the intellectual and social/emotional make up of our students. She has also worked professionally and tirelessly to write grants to support opportunities for our gifted students.”
