GREAT FALLS – Great Falls College MSU recently started offering its accounting degree 100 percent online.
“This program can still be completed in traditional face-to-face classes, or entirely online, or with a combination of both online and face-to-face classes,” said Kerry Dolan, accounting program director at GFC MSU.
Great Falls College MSU has offered its Associate of Applied Science in accounting program for many years. The goal of offering it entirely online was to make the program available to a wider range of students who may not be able to physically attend classes on campus.
“We know for many students taking classes on campus simply is not an option,” said Leanne Frost, director of General Studies at GFC MSU. “Some students live hours from Great Falls or work full-time jobs. We know many of those students will benefit from earning a degree in a field that is in high demand, and this makes that a possibility for them.”
Accounting graduates will be prepared for a variety of jobs including accounting technicians, bookkeepers, payroll clerks, and individual income tax preparers. Accounting wages are on the rise. Accounting program students who graduated from GFC MSU in 2015 earned a median wage of more than $30,000 in their first year of employment after graduation.
“Every organization needs some level of accounting work, which makes this a stable occupation even in times of high unemployment,” Dolan said.
The Associate of Applied Science in Accounting at GFC MSU can be completed in as little as two years. Students can also transfer their accounting coursework to any of the other Montana University System schools to complete their bachelor’s degree.
