GREAT FALLS COLLEGE MSU CELEBRATES NATIONAL AFRICAN AMERICAN HISTORY MONTH
Great Falls, MT—Great Falls College MSU is extending an open invitation to the community to join in recognizing and celebrating African American History Month. The celebration will take place on Wednesday, February 10, 2016, at 2:00 p.m. in Heritage Hall. Great Falls College MSU is located at 2100 16th Avenue South in Great Falls.
Every year in the United States, the nation honors and recognizes February as National African American History Month. As part of this recognition, Great Falls College MSU is hosting Chaplain John Baker from the Great Falls Rescue Mission, who will discuss “Inclusivity in the Community,” and how to make a community feel welcoming to everyone. He will also talk about how access to education has changed for minorities. Additionally, the celebration will feature a performance by the Great Falls Community Gospel Choir.
In a Presidential Proclamation dated January 29, 2016 President Barack Obama stated “Now, therefore, I Barack Obama, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim February 2016 as National African American History Month. I call upon public officials, educators, librarians, and all the people of the United States to observe this month with appropriate programs, ceremonies, and activities.”
“One of the major strengths of the United States is our cultural diversity, and teaching history provides our students with the opportunity to experience that richness of diversity. African American History Month is an excellent opportunity for all of us to learn about and learn from past experiences of our fellow Americans,” said Dr. Darryl Stevens with Great Falls College MSU.
Great Falls College MSU welcomes and encourages students, faculty, staff, and the community to attend this celebration.
The mission of Great Falls College MSU is to educate and inspire you.
