This fall the Center for Lifelong Learning at Great Falls College MSU is launching a new series of classes focused on getting to know Great Falls.
“The goal of this series is to give everyone who is interested a chance to learn more about Great Falls and develop a deeper appreciation for the city,” said Heather Palermo, director of Lifelong Learning at GFC MSU. “They’re great classes for someone who is new to town or who works in the service industry and makes recommendations to visitors.”
Courses include an overview of arts and culture, a history of Great Falls, Great Falls ghost stories, recreation and more.
“With the getting to know Great Falls series, we want to inform people about all the great things Great Falls has to offer, so they can act as ambassadors for the Electric City,” Palermo said. “These classes are for anyone wanting to learn everything from our beginnings to the future of Great Falls.”
The getting to know Great Falls courses are just a few of the more than 80 classes the Center for Lifelong Learning is offering this fall. Other classes range from QuickBooks and Facebook to watercolors and woodcarving.
The Lifelong Learning course lineup for fall includes many new classes along with old favorites in a wide variety of subject areas. Classes are offered in a range of schedules. Some last a few hours; others last for several weeks. Most classes are just for fun, like cooking or art. Others focus on professional development, such as grant writing and retirement planning.
Fall catalogs are in the mail, and the list of courses is also available online at gfcmsu.edu/lifelonglearning.
One new course being offered this fall will focus on classic science fiction films and how they have shaped popular culture and impacted audiences.
“We will watch classic Sci-Fi films and discuss their relationships to their place in history and why these films had such a great impact on their audiences,” Palermo said.
Lifelong Learning has also expanded its health-related classes.
“We have some really cool new health and fitness classes,” Palermo said.
Yoga is one of the most popular subjects offered, and this fall, Lifelong Learning has six different yoga classes. They have also added a number of meditation courses, an intro to Reiki and a course on essential oils.
“We’ve offered meditation in the past, and people have asked for more meditation classes and similar courses,” Palermo said.
Lifelong Learning has again partnered with others around the community to offer specialty courses. Electric City Coffee and Bistro is hosting a number of cooking classes, and the Hi-Line Climbing Center is offering a rock climbing class.
Registration for all Lifelong Learning courses is available online at gfcmsu.edu/lifelonglearning. Those who register before Sept. 5 can receive a $5 discount by using promo code: FALL17EARLY.
